The month of May was about less of the being overly medicated, with better pain control due to the back shots. but these were still days of pain levels of 5's and 6's and not much moving around. Nathan was still doing work part days from his home office, but also having to think about how much time to take off, if he was going to consider surgery.

May 24 - (An entry from Megan) This was the day that I was first worried. Being in Eugene and with stay at home orders, we hadn’t had too much interaction at the Woodburn Helwig House. Nathan and Tiersa were worried about getting sick and not being able to make the appointments (which were in high demand due to Covid precautions). We video chatted regularly and texted and messaged.
It was soon after Nathan had his injections. I was chatting with Tiersa on messenger and I asked if the injections did anything. She said, “They have...but not always working, which is weird. He does nothing and it hurts so bad. And he does nothing and it doesn’t hurt.” She said later on that she worries that it could be cancer and “ I have always planned for my mom to die. I have not planned for my husband to die. And suddenly I have moments of that thought.”

May 29 - Dr. Mirchandani @ Sunnyside appt to discuss redo of SI joint Steroid injection, because Nathan felt like it was the right area, but just maybe not the right angle. He talked Mirchandani into a redo.
May 31- (An entry from Megan)
3 am Messenger notification from Tiersa:
“I am wondering if Spencer could come visit Nathan this afternoon… I think we’re talking about internal bleeding today, and that scares me”.
“Spencer will come”, I typed as we woke up.
This began times where Spencer would go and be at his house, and I would stay at home with the kids off and on. We didn’t know that this would become normal for the next few months.
